The Summer Storms
The last two weeks we have had pop up storms during the middle of the day/evening. These storms evoke a strong memory. I remember 1 storm in particular I was about 10 and was working at the ball park in the canteen when a terrible storm picked up. The wind started howling, gravel from the diamond pelting your face and body. The game was cancelled right away and people just started running for their cars. We closed the canteen and I ran home. When I got home Dad was standing in the front lawn looking at the sky. The clouds looked so close like he could have lifted me up to touch them. Those clouds were rolling, churning like a wave and then the rain came. We stood on the lawn drenched with the summer rain, mom yelling for us to come in. The feeling of danger and excitement that at that one moment you were so close to the storm but yet protected by love and nothing could touch you. I remember those storms through the smell of the rain, the howling wind, the churning sky, they are a great memory.
